TONGARIRO ALPINE CROSSING

Alpine Lake Motor Lodge is your ideal base for exploring the world's oldest National Park and Dual World Heritage Site, 'The Tongariro National Park'.

The world famous and awe-inspiring Tongariro Alpine Crossing is rated as New Zealand's best one day trek.

The Tongariro Crossing is 19.4km of astonishing scenery which takes around 6 to 8 hours to complete. It is a one way traverse so transport is needed to take you to the start then pick you up at the other end.

We can arrange your Tongariro Crossing transport with the Tongariro Expeditions bus which will pick you up from and deliver you to our motel at the end of your day.

In Summer (November- May) pickup is either on the Early Bird at 5.40am OR the later time of 6.20am. In Winter (June- October) pickup is just the Early Bird at 6am.

We recommend the Early Bird service which gets you to the start of the Tongariro Crossing up to 1 1/2 hours before the crowds get there and gives you extra time to ascend the summits of Tongariro or Ngauruhoe.

BE PREPARED

Weather in the Tongariro National Park can change within minutes.

Expected Summer temperatures are 5 to 35 Celsius and in Winter -5 to 10 Celsius

Bookings are essential

We can make the booking for you and payment is made to the Bus Driver on the day. The crossing is weather dependant, so final confirmation is made by Tongariro Expeditions either the day before or the on the day of departure.

'Safety First' is the policy here and you can be assured you will be in the very experienced and safe hands with The Tongariro Expeditions crew.

Winter climbing equipment and attire is required and supplied with the Winter package price.

$59 per person return in Summer (transport only). A guided option is also available on request.
